You Bet Your Boots
Let's discuss my favorite accessory for winter--the statement boot. This knee-high nod to the 60’s and 70’s gets a playful makeover in a boatload (ahem, boot-load) of designs. The embroidered Gucci, the denim Tom Ford, the mirrored Balenciaga, and the lace-up Prada, have this shoe-lover shaking in her boots (sorry, had to.) I’ve always had a weakness for fierce footwear, but it can’t compare to what I feel for a fabulous pair of to-the-knee boots. They bring the rock-n-roll to a look like no other accessory can.
For me, it all started with a pair of multi-tone suede zigzag Jimmy Choo boots I got from my designer discount heaven, AMUZE.com, in 2014. The confidence they caused me to feel was more addictive than any opiate. I found myself selling anything I could part with on The Real Real to rationalize purchasing 2 more pairs from AMUZE—both python Gucci boots (one pink and one purple, but completely different, I swear). It’s become somewhat of a trademark of mine since then, and each fall I find myself splurging on another pair or two from AMUZE. The deals are so good, it’s impossible to resist!
My styling advice for the bold boot is to avoid any pairing that is too serious. A common misconception is that eye-catching accessories must be teamed with safe ensembles. Instead, be brave. Embrace your inner go-go girl with a mod graphic mini or bring a modern edge with bright, cropped trousers. I love the way this winter floral-on-floral look is both whimsical and feminine. As I discussed recently with statement tights, as long as the pairings are in complementing colors and/or patterns, the result will be fresh and fun. The most exciting outfits are usually the least obvious to put together, so don’t be afraid to try and fail. When you get it right, you bet your boots that it’s the ultimate fashion high!
