Last Fur-Rah?
I grew up with a southern mother who had very strict rules about seasonal dressing: no white between Labor Day and Memorial Day, no open-toed shoes in the Fall/Winter, no suede, fur, or leather after Easter Sunday, etc., etc. As a fashion rebel who likes to wear what I want, when I want, Mom's "garment guidelines" drove me crazy, but I abided by them nonetheless. Today these illogical rules are completely outdated. As Harper's Bazaar asserts, "Chalk it up to an obsession with luxury that cannot seem to dissipate regardless of the season. Where once leather and fur were relegated to cold-weather only, designers have taken to the runways to prove that there's a place for both year-round." If it is 40 or 50 something degrees on an April afternoon in NYC why shouldn't I give my favorite cropped purple fur another trip around the block? The truth is, a fur chubby jacket or a marabou feather bolero is the perfect weight for a breezy spring day, and if you get too hot, you can always drape it over a shoulder. Sorry Mom, I guess there is a fur for all seasons.
