This month marks the launch of Excessories Expert blogger and It girl Elizabeth Savetsky’s debut design collaboration with fine jewelry brand Meira T. Together, the sartorially savvy trendsetter and NY-based design house produced a capsule of five mix and match ear baubles, ranging from $153 to $420. Inspired by both wearability and individuality, the MeiraT x Excessories Expert collection emerges feminine and fierce, a choice compliment to the tone of glamorous rebellion flanking current fashion.
“I love to wear delicate mismatched earrings because it is edgy, but still subtle and can be worn every single day,” explained Savetsky over drinks at The Bowery in New York. “When we were filming the MeiraT video lookbook, I paired a diamond ear cuff with a star stud in the opposite ear, and it was like an ‘aha moment’ for all of us. I thought that by selling each earring and ear cuff separately, we are giving each customer a chance to express her own unique style.”
Proving “ear party” is the new “arm party,” MeiraT x Excessories Expert pieces are a sparkling revelry of the “power of the female spirit” coupled “inner rockstar.” In celebration of the launch, we chat with Savetsky about the stud-and-cuff collection, the style inspiration and who she sees sporting these fabulous adornments.

What sparked the MeiraT x Excessories Expert collaboration?
I had a chance meeting with one of Meira Tugendhaft’s daughters, Chantal, at our synagogue, KJ, back in fall ’14. She recognized me from my blog and said she had been planning to e-mail me the following week about modeling for their video lookbook, so us meeting when we did was really the hand of G-d. Working with MeiraT on the video was my first real introduction to the world of fine jewelry. I’ve always been much more attracted to large, statement pieces, but I fell in love with the intricacy and wearability of their beautiful jewels. I started to think about which pieces I would want to own and wear everyday and that’s how our collaboration began. It was all very organic.
Describe the collection design process:
The MeiraT team listened to my 500 ideas and told me what was realistic and what wouldn’t work as well. Then Brigitte, another of Meira’s daughters, walked me through the design process we discussed materials and price points. We decided to make all of the pieces with gold and diamonds so that they would be of the highest quality and stand the test of time. Chantal, Brigitte, and I sent sketches back and forth and settled on a final capsule collection that we are really proud of. They are so talented, professional, and easy to work with. It was an amazing experience each step of the way.

Who is MeiraT x Excessories Expert customer?
There is something in this collection for every woman. I specifically chose to include a trio of studs – a star, a moon, and a lightning bolt – because they are easy to wear, but still special. I used to go bare-lobed for the gym and preschool pick-up, but now I always have my studs in and it makes me feel pretty even when I don’t have time to get dolled up. The ear cuffs are edgy with chain details and contrasting metals, but still maintain the elegance of delicate fine jewelry. Many people are surprised to learn that you only need one hole in each ear to wear the ear cuffs. The ear cuffs are the perfect addition to a pretty summer look and look great for day or night. They each have movement with the chain details, which is something beautifully different than I’ve seen in fine jewelry.

Which one MeiraT x Excessories Expert piece does every woman need NOW?
My personal allegiance lies with the fringed ear cuff, because I think it is the most glamorous of all the pieces, but I recognize that it may not suit every single woman. The diamond lightning bolt stud is such a symbol of the passion and power of the female spirit. Whether worn as a matching pair, or together with another stud or cuff, this gem is electric and really special. I wear 2 lightning bolts together in the same ear - I have 2 piercings in each – and it makes me feel like a rockstar.
