Daytime Dazzle
Oftentimes I spend my time and energy telling you how to take bold accessories and wear them in our everyday lives. However, thoughtful accessorizing and strategic styling can also allow us to incorporate our statement clothing items in day-to-day ensembles. There is nothing more satisfying than finding versatility in pieces that we love but may see as impractical. In my previous post I spoke about the return of maximalism in the fashion world. With sequins, embellishments, embroidery, hardware, and metallic fabrics popping up on so many of the major runways, designers have assured us that razzle-dazzle is once again, quite mainstream.
The question is, how do we interpret this glamour for daytime? Can these pieces go to a lunch meeting or even the office? The answer is yes and it simply lies in adding more serious, contrasting pieces to anchor the glitz. Pair a sequined jacket with vintage jeans and a solid T or basic blouse (like an amazing fidget-free one from Tuxe), team metallic pants with a men’s button-down or sleek blazer, or do like I did here and use a trench or duster coat to tone down embellished shorts (like these from Style & Grace) or a beaded skirt, so long as the length isn’t inappropriately short. Accessorize with masculine pieces like oxford shoes or a briefcase-inspired top-handle bag (like this one from Ella McHugh). Chic glasses and block heeled boots add an element of casual style that enhance the juxtaposing appeal of this eveningwear-for-day outfit. Avoid stiletto heels and evening bags at all costs when working with sparkling clothing. Sticking to a muted color palette, as I’ve done here with blush tones is another good way to make the look suitable for the hours before 5 PM. Now go on, “Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle! How can they see with sequins in their eyes?"
