To The Max
Fashion trends come in waves. Unfortunately for me, for the past several seasons we have been experiencing a wave of minimalism. I firmly believe in not compromising personal style or self-expression in order to meet industry standards, but if you work in fashion, you must respect the artistry of the designers, study the runways, and find your personal comfort zone among the trends. While I admire the look of unkempt hair, barely there make up, and an easy, unaccessorized slip dress on fashion goddesses, "effortless style" is not part of my wheelhouse. I appreciate it, but I cannot personally embrace it. Because I have such a hard time editing down my ensembles, I have been patiently awaiting my chance to accessorize with reckless abandon. ("You were holding back?" you ask. Maybe a hair.) My time has come. The latest runways have indicated a return to maximalism. With his revival of Gucci, Alessandro Michele declared, "Minimalism is over," changing the game in recent fashion and providing yours truly with endless inspiration. This fall is all about embroidered patches, embellishments, hardware, oversized ruffles, eccentric print mixing, big jewelry, statement glasses, and kitty cats galore. More is more in every sense. In layman's terms, if you want to wear a tiger on your jacket and a spectacled kitty on your shirt, with quirky glasses and bold bling, then go for it! Let the games begin!
