Fall Fresh
We've all been there. You open your closet, sigh, roll your eyes, and say something like, "I hate all my clothes!" or "I have nothing to wear!!" We all know it isn't true, but feeling bored of last year's wardrobe is a common issue I know my friends and I share as the seasons change and we bring back out the sweaters and coats. This obviously isn't a real "life problem," but getting dressed should be fun, not frustrating, so I have a few solutions to help the old feel new again.
1. Don't be afraid to explore new denim trends. Try pairing last year's sweaters, vests, and blouses with a new denim silhouette. Sure skinny jeans are a safe bet, but why not indulge in the lengthening effects of a flare, or test drive a trendy, cropped, kick flare pair. High-waisted mom jeans are great tool for adding an instant dash of cool. Go outside your comfort zone. It may take some getting used to, but embrace the change!
2. Accessorize your outerwear. Add a new or vintage brooch (like the chic mink flower I am wearing here! These make great gifts--thanks for this one, Daria!) or a statement-making scarf to express personality and add fresh flair to last year's coats and vests. If you're extra ambitious you can change out the buttons. Personal touches make the difference between ordinary and amazing. Adding patches to your parka is the perfect DIY trick for mamas who want to set themselves apart from the pack of uniformed mommies at school drop off in their chic, but vanilla outerwear. Go bold! Have fun!
3. Switch up your hair! A new do or a cool hat could be all you need to feel fresh. A funky beanie or structured fedora can instantly upgrade a casual look. Lately, I've become obsessed with turban-style headbands and if the latest runways are any indication, they'll be huge through next year. I've also been wearing these braid extensions from Just Braydz that look so natural, nobody can believe I didn't spend hours on my hair. They can be worn as headbands, or unsnapped to be worn in so many creative ways. Lazy hair never looked so stylish!
