I have been fascinated by the iconic, eccentric, creative genius that is Karl Lagerfeld since I was first introduced to the fashion industry. I’ve spent hours upon hours of my life perusing his designs for Chanel and Fendi, crooning over his statement-making furs, admiring his tongue-in-cheek cultural references, and feeling endless inspiration from his constant reinvention of fashion design. I also find his distaste for athleisure (“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.”) and passion for Diet Coke incredibly appealing. I love the man so much that 5 years ago I bought a George Washington wig from Party City, borrowed my husband’s suit and tie, and dressed up as him for Purim.
I am a huge fan of Karl Lagerfeld’s own fashion house, and the perfect marriage he brings of “timeless classics with a modern, rock-chic edge.” In 2016, he launched Karl Lagerfeld Paris, to bring his chic, Parisian designs to North America. I must say, after reading the guide of four enviable Parisian women, How to be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits, I immediately wanted to move to Paris, subsist on fries and red wine and wear exclusively Karl Lagerfeld designs. I can’t move to Paris, but thankfully Karl brought Paris to me.
After years of loving his women’s designs, I was elated when the Karl Lagerfeld team contacted me to tell me he was launching a children’s collection. There’s nothing that excites me more than a fabulous mommy-and-me fashion moment! As with the women’s collection, Karl incorporates playful cat-ears, nods to Paris, and his signature styles (Stella's dress). The result is as modern and classy as the mama counterparts. Karl sure knows how to bring some chicness to our Eggo waffles and Ready Whip.
