The Pom Pom Beanie
Not surprisingly, as each new season approaches, I am in constant search for my signature accessory. This fall/winter I am taking inspiration from none other than my almost-one-year-old daughter, Stella. I found the most amazing winter hat for her from Satila of Sweden and I thought, hey, I should get one of these for myself. It turns out, the pom pom beanie, while never totally gone, has made a huge comeback. They've been seen and photographed in a wide array of colors on off-duty models and street style stars (my favorite Mira Duma, of course) from New York to London to Paris.
Why do I love the pom pom beanie?
- Hats are an easy way to look put-together and cool when you have under 5 minutes to get ready. Got greasy hair? No problem. I'm especially digging the bright colored pom poms to liven up a tired face.
- It's a practical accessory. It's freezing in the winter and I need to wear a hat to keep my head warm anyway.
- The pom pom makes me at least 1.5-2 inches taller and I'll take any height I can get.
I love neutral colors like charcoal, camel, and oxblood for the beanie, but because this is a blog about excessive accessories, my pick is this one from Miss Pom Pom. I picture it with a graphic sweater dress like this one (I am seriously about to buy this!), a leather motorcycle jacket, and a statement necklace in the same color palate as the hat like this one from Erickson Beamon. It would also look Sunday-easy-glam at your son's (or daughter's) soccer game (or t-ball or hockey etc. etc.) with jeans, a t-shirt, an oversized chunky knit cardigan, and wedge sneakers.
