What’s the coziest trend that celebs like Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, and Rhianna have all been rocking? I’ll give you a hint. It’s what’s dreams are made of. Pajama dressing! For the past couple of sartorial seasons, designers like Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, and Alexander Wang have taken to the runways to show us how wearing PJ’s outside the bedroom is downright chic! I’m not telling you to wear your Santa Claus flannels in public, but silky matching sets, lace-trimmed slips, and robe-inspired dresses can easily be taken from the boudoir to the streets with the right styling. Here are three tips for wearing your jammies as clothing.
1. Accessorize Thoughtfully:
It is important for the execution of the outfit to appear intentional so you avoid looking like you just rolled out of bed. The best way to achieve this is through careful accessorizing that is elegant or modern to take the boudoir pieces from sleepwear to streetwear. Elevate a silk set with polished stilettos instead of slippers, use a classic leather belt to cinch your kimono robe, and juxtapose a lacy slip with a masculine watch or utility boots.
2. Break It Up:
Not ready to commit to wearing a full pajama set in broad daylight? No problem! Embracing the boudoir trend is as simple as choosing a silky button down PJ top as an alternative to your favorite classic oxford shirt. Couple it with a great pair of trousers for the office or vintage Levis and sneakers for Sunday brunch. Or, go with the silky pants! Nothing is more comfy when you’re feeling lousy (or PMS-y) than a delicious pair of drawstring pants. Contrast them with a tailored blazer and ladylike pumps!
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Layer:
Try the unexpected combination of a slip dress worn over a knit turtleneck or cotton button-down for daytime. A camisole with lace panels is subtly sexy under a biker jacket for a girls’ night out. You can even layer a velvet robe dress over leather pants for a look that is effortlessly chic!
Runway Report: NYFW Accessory Highlights F/W 2016
Delpozo
There were loads of eye-catching accessories on the runways of New York Fashion Week, but there were some fabulous, stand-out moments. Here are the accessory highlights from 5 of the shows I covered with the coolest add-ons.
1. Alice and Olivia
This show was the most exciting for me, because the collection was not only gorgeous, but also extremely wearable. Case in point: my friend and I couldn't stop laughing that I literally looked like part of the presentation in the metallic pantsuit I showed up wearing. The tone of the collection was very disco diva with statement-making details like rainbow booties, patterned mini bags, and my personal favorite: a sequined patched, acid washed, shrunken jean jacket. These accessories were the perfect complement to the retro beaded mini dresses and flowing maxis.
2. Delpozo
Bold, elegant, and completely original, Delpozo's collection was one of the most inspiring of the week. With his signature interesting voluminous shapes, intricate embellishments, and pops of a bright color, Josep Font curated the perfect modern day fairytale. While most of the full ensembles lack wearability for real life, accessories like glittered platform oxfords, and coordinating embellished leather gloves and handbags would add a gorgeous element of interest to an evening look in lieu of statement jewelry.
3. Anna Sui
This was a total rock-n-roll runway with groovy colorful shearling jackets, tribal embroidered velvet pieces, and eccentric patterned dresses featuring hearts and rainbows. While whimsical animal hats and jeweled glasses were kitschy-cute, it was the vintage-inspired pendant necklaces from Erickson Beamon that provided the perfect bohemian addition to this collection. These jewels would transition beautifully into everyday wear when paired with jeans and one of Anna Sui's fab furs.
4. Naeem Khan
Always one of the most breathtaking runways, Naeem Khan's fall/winter 2016 collection did not disappoint. In fact, it was the epitome of red-carpet glamour. Bold baubles and gilded box clutches modernized the regal Marie Antoinette theme. I was relieved to see the continued incorporation of giant, shoulder-dusting earrings. It is safe to say that this accessories trend is one that will be sticking around for the coming year.
5. Michael Kors
Michael Kors didn’t shy away from fun colors, prints, and textures for this collection. The runway was filled with acid green and baby blue furs, cutesy floral neck bows, feathered everything, and handbags with heavy chains. We saw a continuation of the incorporation of fur in unconventional accessories like floral handbags and even as a trench-cinching belt!

NYFW: Excessories on the Street
This past week during New York Fashion Week, I had the wonderful opportunity to step behind the camera to capture the boldest and brightest accessories on the street for People Stylewatch and TheOutfit.com. I have always taken inspiration from the creative accessories styling I see off the runway during fashion week, but actually documenting these statement pieces in the midst of the madness of fashion week was new territory. There is such an adrenaline rush in trying to chronicle fabulous moments that pass in the blink of an eye and shutter of the lens. I have a huge newfound respect for the street style photographers that have the talent to make these chaotically fleeting moments look so beautifully contrived. They are true artists.
It was an exciting, educating, inspiring, not to mention deliriously exhausting week filled with attending amazing shows, accessories street style photography, Rosh Hashanah, and my daughter's first week of preschool, and I wouldn't trade any of it for anything! I am, however, looking forward to a bit of a break...for at least an hour or two. Below are some of my favorite shots from the week. I am including some images of what I wore, as well. I am proud to say that every outfit was concocted of items I already owned. I didn't purchase anything new, but I had a great time repurposing some of my favorite pieces. For example, I personalized my denim Fendi baguette (a consignment score!) with 25-cent patches from eBay and I restyled my rainbow sequin dress with this season's must-have accessory: the obi belt. It was a very wallet-friendly way to do fashion week and I know my husband is extremely grateful!
