Feeling British
This outfit was slightly inspired by the Queen's Guard uniform. I was at Bloomingdales during Friends and Family in October, and just when I was about to escape empty handed, I saw this faux fur hat at Ted Baker London (similar available here) and I knew I needed to own it. This winter is a HUGE season for fur (real or faux) and piling on fur excessories has never looked chicer...you really can't overdo it. Oh yah, did I mention how warm it will keep you? Added bonus! I tried the hat on in black, but then I literally looked like a Queen's Guard, so I opted for the light tan version. In the future, I plan to get a pink or leopard version, but I decided to start with something more neutral.
To keep the British theme going I wore this vintage tartan dress I found at the Nineteen Orange Vintage shopping party. Northing is more British than tartan, except maybe Big Ben. To keep warm and add color, I slung my Birtish-made Orla Kiely Coat (similar available here) over my shoulders. Did I mention that Princess Kate LOVES Orla Kiely?? If it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me!
It wouldn't be a perfect winter ensemble without some oxblood add-ons. My grandma, whom I call Bobbie, has generously shared many of her fabulous, now vintage, accessories with me over the years. From handbags, to belts, to jewelry, I have been spoiled rotten by Bobbie's archives! One day a few years ago, she stopped by with this unbelievably luxurious oxblood fur scarf and said to me in her heavy Alabama accent, "Honey, you live in Manhattan, you'll wear this more than I do and you'll look TOUGH in it." She was right. I live in it. I found this oxblood velvet Chanel Boy bag that was practically a perfect match to the scarf and knew it needed to be mine. SPLURGE! I haven't regretted it for one second. Both of the oxblood excessories look great with a dress and heels, but I wear them daily, dressed down with jeans and moto-boots or wedge sneakers...stroller-pushing attire!
