Last year, my Thanksgiving festive attire of choice was the embellished jacket. This year, in congruence with my 70's rockstar-wannabe moment, it's the embroidered vest. A vest is an important addition to a wardrobe, regardless of the season. In summer I do lightweight kimono-style vests, in winter I favor oversized colorful fur. While this fall has been filled with fringed suede outfit toppers, which I adore, I am currently crushing on the embroidered vest a la Saint Laurent. Top a turtleneck or a flouncy floral dress, add a pair of suede boots and some retro statement baubles and you'll be ready to rock Turkey Day. Peace, Love, and Boots

Last week, I accompanied my husband to San Francisco for a medical conference. While he worked, I played. I went vintage shopping, had Irish coffee at Buena Vista (twice), and roamed the hills of the city. Never one to shy away from literal theme-dressing, I couldn't help but channel the hippie vibes of the Haight-Ashbury while exploring the City by the Bay. My hippie may be more a little more glam than earthy, authentic hippie chicks like Joan Baez and Stevie Nicks. I guess one may call this look "Haute Hippie." Oh shoot, someone beat me to that name.

By now you probably know that there is little I love in life more than a statement accessory (my family, close friends, and simple carbohydrates rank just above.......kidding). There is no word besides groovy to describe these zigzag suede Jimmy Choo boots from AMUZE (that you can get for an insanely ridiculous deal that is almost too good to be true). What better place to wear these groovy boots than in the city that was home to psychedelic rock and the hippie counterculture movement? What I wouldn't give to be taking shots of Southern Comfort with Janis Joplin in 1967. I can almost hear Bobby McGee...

Floppy Fall

A chic topper is an excessive essential for any season. For this fall, the 70's are back in a major way, which means a floppy, boho-moment is a MUST. Pair your felt floppy with jeans, over-the-knee boots, and a fringed poncho for a casual-glam look, or dress it up like I did here in a vintage maxi. Don't forget to add oversized sunglasses and/or shoulder-dusting earrings to amp up the retro drama!

Jacketless

I consider coats, jackets, and vests to be outfit enhancers aka excessories. So, while I am thrilled that " jacket weather" has officially arrived, I truly savored the last few days of jacketless simplicity. I didn't even plan to take photos on this particular 70-degree day, but a post-Sant Ambroeus caffeine-high spawned this impromptu shoot on Madison and 77th with my coffee date and dear friend, Adi. I am going to miss throwing on a dress and jewels and heading out the door. Bidding "adieu" to jacketless weather until springtime...

Favorite Time of Year

There's something in the air. It's a fresh, crisp, breezy sensation that brings warm and fuzzy feelings of "back-to-school" nostalgia. I literally wake up happier this time of year. I love the fall for many reasons. The temperatures are perfect for all-day strolls...no need for taxis when the weather is this beautiful! Fall is also my favorite season for dressing because I love to play with layers and cool-weather accessories like wool hats, flannel scarves, and leather gloves. My seasonal uniform tends to channel Paul Bunyan ("Lumberjack Lizzy," if you will). On any given day you will find me pushing the stroller around the Upper East Side clad in flannel shirt and fur vest, latte in hand, smile on my face. This is my happy place.
