Whether you’re planning for an intimate dinner party, or an evening of dancing on the town, New Year’s Eve provides the perfect excuse to incorporate those dazzling, statement accessories you’ve been lusting after. This is not the time to hold back on the glitz and glamour. As we bid farewell to 2015, the key to a stand-out look is in the details. Bring the bling when you ring in 2016!
When it comes to jewelry, huge earrings are the “it” accessory of the moment. From vintage gold door-knockers to crystal-fringed clip-ons to beaded tassels, there are a plethora of bold styles just screaming for a midnight champagne toast. Shoulder dusters pair perfectly with a sleek black jumpsuit, a lamé mini dress, or a sequined jacket and high-waisted trousers. Don’t be afraid to invest in a statement style. You will wear them far beyond December 31st as indicated by the Spring/Summer runways of Alexander McQueen, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, and Prada.
An unexpected way to incorporate New Year’s sparkle is with a glittery pair of tights. For the ladies on a budget, this is a wallet-friendly way to upgrade your favorite little black dress! Added bonus? Your legs will be extra warm on a potentially frigid night. If your dress is already bedazzled, stick to a pair with minimal sparkle and embellishment to avoid looking like a Christmas Tree.
For a spectacular evening, your basic black clutch simply will not do. To add an element of razzle-dazzle, throw your keys and lipstick in a metallic mesh bag, which is making a major comeback. Previously coveted by the flappers of the 1920’s and the disco queens of the 1970’s, these iconic bags are a key ingredient for an exquisite NYE ensemble.
Take the opportunity to abandon the cheap (although festive and fun) paper “Happy New Year” crown and have a real princess moment with a beautiful headpiece or hair adornment inspired by the Saint Laurent, Rodarte, and Miu Miu spring runways. Contrast the elegance of a delicate jeweled comb or tiara with an edgy leather ensemble for a cool-girl vibe.
Go for the glow from head to toe with a sparkling shoe or boot. Take a cue from Dorothy Gale with a glittery bootie or crystal-coated pump. Disclaimer: you will be better off forgoing the glistening tights if you opt for this accessory. Let your tootsies do the twinkling with black sheer stockings or a bare leg.
I live in sundresses during the summer and I wear them to the point that I never want to see them again come the following year. For this reason, 99% of my summer day dresses cost less than $100, with many as low as $30. I find most of my favorites from Zara, H&M, and Forever 21. I get such great pleasure from taking an inexpensive dress, like this beautiful one from H&M, and accessorizing it in all sorts of ways. My good friend, Shani, and I discovered this particular dress on one of our shopping excursions and both bought it in different colors. We have been having the best time sending each other mirror selfies of the different ways we style it. Isn't it a blast to see how two people can conceptualize completely unique ways to wear the same dress? Do you and your friends do the same thing?

It's the most glamorous time of the year. New Years Eve is not the time to pull back on the razzle-dazzle. Bring it all: red lip, smoky eye, fabulous jewels, sparkling frock, fur coat, and statement clutch. This year's vibe is "disco glam" (think Halston), which I have channeled with a lamé faux-wrap dress, shoulder-dusting earrings, an oversized leopard fur coat, and a fab fringed clutch.
Lamé is a great, lightweight alternative to sequins. Because, let's face it, if you're dancing the way you should be, you're gonna be schvitzing up a storm! A pop of color like my bright red lip and clutch can really take an evening look to the next level. There is something so sexy about the way a fringed bag moves with the wind and the movement of your body. I want to dance with this Hammitt clutch under a disco ball. It comes with a cross-body strap as well, so I will be wearing it to New Years Day brunch with jeans and a flannel and some HUGE sunglasses to hide my hangover.
Cheers to an excessorized 2015!

When I think of the ultimate glam party girl, I think of Edie Sedgwick and her iconic, shoulder-dusting earrings. New Years Eve 2015 demands a retro-glam "Edie Earring" moment. Pair with a black sequined mini-dress or a sexy halter jumpsuit, a dark smoky eye, and some serious lashes. Keep the rest of the accessories to a minimum. Shop my fave earrings a la Edie below.
