I want to talk a bit about something that is extremely close to my heart: Israel. I fell in love with Israel on my first visit as an 18-year-old delegate on Birthright. I spent a lot of time there over the past 12 years, even living in Jerusalem at 2 different points for many months. The strong ties I feel to my homeland are a connection that is so deeply rooted, it is indescribable. I know I am not alone in these feelings. I may not reside there currently, but Israel is my home.
It is terribly sad, but the state of threats against Israel and Israelis is by no means new territory for its citizens. There is, however, a deep sense of urgency to help those who have been victimized by terrorism. The most recent flair up of random attacks on civilians has left many of us feeling helpless and asking ourselves, "What can I do from so far away?" I know with each news report I see of violent acts in Israel, my heart breaks a little more.
Lately, I've spent a lot of time reevaluating my work and the direction of my blog. I love writing about fashion and accessories, but I feel a call to action in these crucial times. It has been a dream of mine to be able to combine my passion for accessories with my passion for Israel to help make a difference in the world, as small as it may be. I am excited to announce that after speaking with several fantastic people who share this dream, we are hoping to make it a reality.
I, along with Mika Dumont of Elahn Jewels, Erin Lichy of Erin Dana handbags, Eliana Landenheim of EishesStyle, artists Jessica Tamar Deutch and Meirav Ong, Incredible Creations, and Ronen Seri of Blossom Restaurants am partnering with One Family Fund to bring you an evening to shop, sip, and support Israel. One Family Fund is a non-profit organization that serves as the family of Israel’s victims of terror attacks – "those who have been bereaved, those who have been maimed, and those suffering from post-trauma as a result of terrorist attacks." One Family Fund works tirelessly to empower victims of terror and to help them rebuild their lives.
If you are in the NYC area, I sincerely hope you can join us for one night to unite for Israel! This will be a special evening of Chanukah shopping, socializing, eating, and drinking, with proceeds benefiting One Family Fund. We may be far away, but we can still do our part to help victims of terror in Israel.
